Description
Amido Black Naphthalene Black is a protein dye sensitive to the properties in blood, it can be used to enhance or develop blood-contaminated latent prints. Bloody latent prints, even those not visible to the naked eye, may be developed on porous or nonporous surfaces, such as cadavers, wood or paper. Amido Black powder can be mixed with Glacial Acetic Acid and Methanol to create a workable Amido Black solution.
The formulation from CAST (The Centre for Applied Science and Technology – used to be part of the Home Office, now DSTL – UK) that is based on water/ethanol/acetic acid stains as good as the methanol-based one. For use on a crime scene (for example, shoeprints in blood) the water-based staining solutions are advised.
