Body Bag Adult 6 Grab handles
Purpose of a Body Bag
A body bag (also known as a disaster pouch or cadaver bag) is a specially designed, leak-proof, and durable container used for transporting and storing human remains. The heavy-duty versions used by UK forensic and crime scene units — typically black with a C-shaped or C-section zip — are designed to:
- Contain biological material (blood, fluids, tissue) safely.
- Prevent contamination of the surrounding environment.
- Allow discreet and respectful handling of the deceased.
- Withstand handling and movement in various conditions, including outdoor or disaster scenes.
Continuity of Evidence
In forensic work, continuity of evidence (sometimes called chain of custody) means that every item — including a body — must be traceable from the moment it’s discovered until it’s examined in court. This ensures evidence has not been tampered with, contaminated, or lost.
For body recovery, that means:
- The body is sealed in a bag immediately after documentation and photography at the scene.
- The bag is labeled with unique identifiers (case number, date, time, recovery officer’s name).
- A record is kept of every person who handles or transfers the bag.
This preserves both physical evidence (DNA, trace fibers, wounds) and legal integrity — allowing courts to trust that the findings are authentic and uncontaminated
